Sell a junk truck, van or SUV
Do junk car buyers take trucks, vans and SUVs?
Yes. Cash For Junk Cars Westside Chicago LLC buys junk pickups, cargo and work vans, minivans and SUVs across Chicago's West Side and the near west suburbs, running or not. The process is the same as for a car: an offer on the phone, a free tow from where it's parked and payment at pickup.
Bigger vehicles get junked for the same reasons cars do: a dead engine, rust through the frame, a repair bill bigger than the truck. They just take up more room while they wait, and that’s often what makes the owner call.
What we take
- Pickups: half-ton to heavy-duty, two-wheel or four-wheel drive, with or without a bed cap.
- Cargo and work vans: full-size vans from contractors, delivery work and small businesses, including ones with shelving.
- Passenger vans and minivans: family haulers that finally quit.
- SUVs: small crossovers to full-size, body-on-frame models.
Bigger than that? Box trucks, step vans, semi tractors and trailers have their own page: box trucks and semis. So do RVs and campers.
Condition doesn’t matter for the sale. Running, not running, wrecked, rusted out, stripped of a few parts. Tell us what’s there and what isn’t.
Things that are different about trucks and vans
Size and where it’s parked. A full-size van or a lifted pickup won’t fit every alley or garage, and some suburbs restrict where trucks can sit overnight. Melrose Park, for one, limits noncommercial trucks on residential streets overnight; the Melrose Park page has the details. If yours is in a tight spot, say so on the call.
Business ownership. A van titled to a company is sold by someone who can sign for the company. Have that person on hand at pickup with the title.
What’s inside. Work vans collect things. Check the bins, the cab and behind the seats. Remove toll transponders, fuel cards and anything with the business name on it.
Weight. Heavier vehicles carry more metal, which is one reason a truck can be worth more than a small car in the same state. Our guide to parts versus scrap value explains what drives the number.
Before you call
Have the year, make, model, a rough mileage, the condition and the title status ready. If you’re also weighing a sale to a yard instead, our guide to the difference between a junkyard and a junk car buyer lays out how each one works.
Pickup itself works the same as for any car; see free junk car removal. For a truck that’s really just a frame and a pile of parts, see scrap cars.
Questions people ask
- Do you buy work vans with shelving or racks still in them?
- Yes. Leave the shelving in if it's bolted down, but take out tools, ladders and anything you want to keep. Tell us about racks on the roof so the driver knows the height.
- Is a heavier vehicle worth more?
- Weight is one part of a junk vehicle's value, so a full-size pickup or van often brings more than a compact car in the same shape. Condition, parts and what's missing matter too.
- Can you pick up a truck parked in a business lot?
- Yes, as long as someone with authority over the lot knows the truck is leaving and the person selling it can sign for it.
