Junk car makes we buy, from Toyota to Freightliner
What car makes does a junk car buyer take?
Cash For Junk Cars Westside Chicago LLC buys every make on Chicago's West Side and in the near west suburbs: Japanese, American, Korean and European cars, plus motorcycles, RVs and commercial trucks. The badge doesn't decide whether we buy it. Condition, missing parts and the title shape the offer, and towing is free.
Here are the makes people ask about most, grouped by where the brand comes from, with the one or two things worth telling us for each group. If yours isn't listed, we still buy it. Call (872) 356-9799 or use the form.
Japanese makes
Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, Scion
- Hybrids such as the Prius, Camry Hybrid and Accord Hybrid: tell us whether the hybrid battery pack is still in the car and whether it has been replaced. A missing pack changes the offer.
- Converter theft is a real risk with hybrids. The National Insurance Crime Bureau has pointed to hybrid converters, the Prius among them, as more valuable to thieves (Fox 32 Chicago, 2022). If yours was cut off, say so on the call.
American makes
Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, Ram, Jeep, Chrysler, GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Lincoln, Tesla, plus brands that are gone: Pontiac, Saturn, Mercury, Oldsmobile, Plymouth
- Brands that no longer exist are bought the same way as current ones. What matters is the title and the condition, not whether the dealer is still open.
- Pickups, full-size vans and SUVs from these makes have their own page: trucks, vans and SUVs. Electric cars are fine too; tell us it's electric and whether the battery was damaged.
Korean makes
Hyundai, Kia, Genesis
- Many 2015 to 2019 Hyundai and Kia models without push-button start were built without immobilizers, and NHTSA announced a theft-deterrent software update for about 3.8 million Hyundais and 4.5 million Kias in 2023 (CBS News). A car that was stolen and recovered may have a broken ignition or steering column. Tell us, and tell us whether insurance paid a claim on it, because a paid total-loss claim usually makes the insurer the owner (see totaled cars in Illinois).
European makes
Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Mini, Fiat, Land Rover, Jaguar, Porsche
- With an older European car, the deciding moment is often a repair quote rather than a crash. Before you pay for an engine or transmission, run the numbers in repair or sell.
- A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or other work van is bought as a van; leave the shelving in if it's bolted down.
Motorcycle makes
Harley-Davidson, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, BMW, Triumph, Ducati, Indian, KTM
- A motorcycle is titled in Illinois like a car, and it gets picked up differently. The motorcycles page covers both.
RV and commercial makes
RVs: Winnebago, Thor, Forest River, Jayco, Keystone, Coachmen, Fleetwood, Airstream. Trucks: Freightliner, International, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, Volvo, Isuzu, Hino, Ford, Chevrolet
- A motorhome has two makers: the company that built the coach and the one that built the chassis underneath, often Ford or Chevrolet. Give us both, plus the length. See RVs and campers.
- Semi tractors and trailers are separate vehicles with separate titles. See box trucks and semis.
Questions about makes and models
- Is there a make or model you won't buy?
- No. We buy every make and model, foreign or domestic, current or discontinued. The offer rests mostly on condition, what's missing and the paperwork.
- Does the make change what you pay?
- It can, because some models have parts that are in demand and others don't. That's one of the things we look at along with the year, condition and what's missing. Our guide to parts or scrap explains how value is worked out.
- My car's brand is out of business. Can I still sell it?
- Yes. A Saturn, Pontiac or Mercury is bought the same way as anything else on the road. Have the title and your ID ready.
